The result was LibreOffice, a new community-driven fork of the code by the not-for-profit organization, The Document Foundation.
Briefly, when Oracle bought out Sun Microsystems in April 2009, they inherited the OpenOffice suite and in the eyes of the Open Source movement, badly managed support and development of that suite. While this book is written for OpenOffice Calc it equally applies to LibreOffice Calc. I liked the way the author concisely adds in useful references to extensions of the subject being discussed without distracting from the main point. Its particular strengths are that it DOES quickly and concisely cover the basics of how to create and develop spreadsheets starting with Calc Essentials (chapter 1), Formulas, Functions and Formatting (chapters 2 to 4) and then covers in detail a selected subset of the standard OpenOffice Calc in-built functions in the remaining 9 chapters. Be sure to set this to " or doublequotes option.At a brief 112 pages plus an 8 page index, you'll need to be sure that this book meets your particular needs. Towards the end of the separator section, you will see a drop down menu labeled "Text delimiter" with two options.
Make sure all the other checkboxes are left blank. Then, place a check mark into the "Comma" checkbox. Select this radio button instead of "Fixed Width" so that you can specify what the file's delimeter is. Within that import window, you will see a section labled "Separator Options" which will need to have the following settings defined to open your CSV file correctly. When you export a CSV file from your store to your desktop and open it in OpenOffice Calc, you will be prompted with an import function that will let you import the text file into the correct columns and rows of the spreadsheet. While similar in function to other spreadsheet programs, there are a few considerations to make when using OpenOffice Calc to ensure your CSV files are read and saved in the proper format for your Shift4Shop store. However, an alternate set of office tools that has gained popularity is Apache's OpenOffice suite which includes its very own spreadsheet program called Calc. The most popular spreadsheet program available is Microsoft Excel which is part of the Microsoft Office Suite. While not specifically a spreadsheet file on its own, a comma separated values (CSV) text file has an advantage in the fact that it can be viewed and read more comfortably in a spreadsheet program.
